A better coaching question

“Do you understand why?”

A plan can tell you what to do next. Good coaching helps you understand the decision behind it.

Education before instruction

Coaching should build independence.

Traditional coaching can make the athlete reliant on the next instruction. The Not Coach takes a different view: the athlete should leave every conversation knowing more than when it began.

That means explaining the principles behind training, being honest about uncertainty, and using evidence in context—not as a substitute for judgement.

Why specialist preparation matters

Virtual racing is not just riding indoors.

Starts, rapid changes in pace, attacks, counterattacks, repeated high-power efforts and short recovery periods create specific demands. Route selection and accumulated race fatigue matter too.

Preparation should reflect those demands without turning every training session into another race.

Frequently asked

Before you enquire.

What is esports cycling coaching?

It is coaching built around the specific demands of virtual racing: repeated high-intensity efforts, rapid pace changes, starts, positioning, short recoveries, route demands, and the interaction between racing and structured training.

Which platforms are supported?

The service is platform-independent and can support athletes racing on established esports cycling platforms. Exact compatibility is confirmed directly. The Not Coach is not affiliated with or endorsed by any platform.

Is the training only for indoor cycling?

No. Outdoor training and racing can be included when they contribute to the athlete’s goals, availability, and overall development.

How quickly are coached athletes answered?

Coached athletes receive direct ongoing Discord access with regular daily review and responses. This is not represented as literal 24-hour availability.

How it works

A clear process. No black box.

Coaching is a collaboration: decisions are explained, feedback is useful, and the process develops your ability to self-coach.

  1. Understand the athlete

Use the GROW framework—Goal, Realistic, Opportunity, and Will—to define the aim, keep it grounded, recognise what is possible, and commit to the next step.

  2. Build with purpose

Shape training around a clear reason, with enough context to understand why each part is there.

  3. Learn and adapt

Life happens. Review what changed and adapt the plan around work, family, fatigue, illness, and racing instead of forcing the athlete to follow something rigid.

Coaching

Support that aims to make itself unnecessary.

Individual esports coaching is for athletes who value explanation as much as instruction. Training responds to performance, fatigue, racing, work, family, and the rest of real life.
